This is a really stupid Friday Five, but meh. It's better than doing my Psych reading, which is so loooooong. *snore*
1. What housekeeping chore(s) do you hate doing the most?
Cleaning my cat's litterbox, which hasn't been a problem in college since Mitzi is at home.
2. Are there any that you like or don't mind doing?
Cleaning my room. It's...relaxing.
3. Do you have a routine throughout the week or just clean as it's needed?
Clean as needed.
4. Do you have any odd cleaning/housekeeping quirks or rules?
Not any that I know of.
5. What was the last thing you cleaned?
Um, my clothes this afternoon.

Directly cross-posted to my blog:
I went exploring Denbigh this evening, prompted by a throwaway line in an old edition of Bryn Mawr's online newsletter -- referring to a science fiction library on the second floor. Being on the first floor, I haven't had much need to venture to other parts of the dorm, but I sure didn't find any science fiction library anywhere the last time I wandered around. This time, I walked into a rather obscure hall that led into the Language Learning Lab (which is housed on Denbigh's first floor and was closed at that time of day). The first thing I noticed was a stairwell leading down the basement, with "Do not enter" or some such thing written on the door; the door was propped open at the moment, so I saw no problem with taking a look around despite the warning. Creeeepy...it was all open, dark space with piping everywhere, and I kept imagining that some nefarious figure would come along and lock me in.
When I left the basement, I discovered a very narrow staircase -- definitely NOT the main stairs -- that led upstairs to a dead end, with four doors arrayed in a square. One door was locked, one a closet and another a one-room bathroom, but guess what I found when I opened the fourth door? A room filled with bookshelves, and sci-fi/fantasy novels everywhere.
I am a happy (and dorky) little Denbigh person. :)

In case anyone is curious as to what classes I'm taking but doesn't read my main blog, here's my schedule:
Experimental Psychology Introduction to Anthropology: Archaeology & Human Relations Intensive Intermediate Spanish Identity Matters (College Seminar)
Identity Matters is my CSem course for first semester, since all freshmen are required to take some sort of CSem. I like all four of my classes so far, especially my potential major: Anthropology (Prof. Monge is awesome!). I'm thinking that Intensive Intermediate Spanish is going to be especially scary -- since it's intensive and not regular, it will be for a semester and progress at an accelerated speed -- but hopefully I'll be able to handle it.

1. Where do you see yourself 18 years from now?
Hmm. Well, I'll be 36...probably still single with no kids (I don't understand the appeal of little children), but with several cats and reptiles. Career-wise, I have no idea what I'll be doing; I'm hoping that I "get some direction" in college as to what the heck I want to do with my life. *grumbles* If Mom has her way, I'll be a lawyer. Mrr.
2. If you were to save the world from some unstated catastrophe, what would your weapons be?
Furry Girl, the superhero alterego of my cat Mitzi! :P
3. What is this unstated catastrophe?
Uh...widgets attempting to take over the world?
4. What is _not_ the meaning of life?
The IB program, which tends to dominate your life until the day you graduate.
5. Mmm... either calculate the period (physics :D) for the tail of your gecko icon or... Tell me how you update your journal... I'm perplexed by the lack of anything under "Clients used:" in your userinfo.
Ahhhhh! No more physics! *cowers in fear* As for how I update my journal, I just go directly to the LiveJournal site and click on "Update Journal."
I should point out that I mainly use this LJ to comment on other people's posts and to write up silly results to every week's Friday Five. However, my main blog (Snowball Effect) is here.

2. Who was the last person you had an argument with?
Mom. Of course.
3. Who was the last person you emailed?
The e-mail list for all of my ex-senior friends from RM. I was giving them my contact information for when I'm at Bryn Mawr.
4. When was the last time you bathed?
I take a shower every morning.
5. What was the last thing you ate?
One of Mom's pan-fried cheeseburgers.

I know I wrote up the answers to these last week...huh, must've misplaced them somehow.
1. What's the last place you traveled to, outside your own home state/country?
Costa Rica, for two weeks last summer; I stayed in the Poca Sol station in the rainforest for roughly half of the trip, while the other half was spent with a host family in La Lucha (I really ought to write them *feels terribly guilty*).
2. What's the most bizarre/unusual thing that's ever happened to you while traveling?
Ranwa and I were sitting on a bench in Syntagma Square (Athens, Greece) singing Madrigal songs, when an older lady came up to us and asked us if we had money and a place to stay. When we looked quizzically at her in response, she told us that most people who sit around and sing in the streets are homeless people trying to get alms.
On the same day in Athens, a Japanese man selling shirts on the street noticed that I was also Japanese and tried doubly hard to get me to buy a shirt...and groped my chest in the process. Urg.
3. If you could take off to anywhere, money and time being no object, where would you go?
Japan, Ireland, Egypt, New Zealand...and I'd like to visit Colorado again. Or drive cross-country across the U.S.
4. Do you prefer traveling by plane, train or car?
Definitely train. That's how I'll be traveling to college, too!
5. What's the next place on your list to visit?
Well, Bryn Mawr College is very close to Philadelphia. I would love to explore the city, and take a historical tour while I'm at it.

1. What time do you wake up on weekday mornings?
In high school, I got up at about 6:20 A.M.; as for college, it will depend on what my schedule is like.
2. Do you sleep in on the weekends? How late?
Yup, till anywhere (anywhen?) from 10:00-11:00 A.M. I'm a night-owl and I regularly go to bed at 3:00 in the morning -- sometimes even 5:00 in the morning -- so I definitely sleep in when I can.
3. Aside from waking up, what is the first thing you do in the morning?
Have a cup of jasmine or oolong tea.
4. How long does it take to get ready for your day?
I dunno...a half-hour to 45 minutes, roughly? It takes me a while to really wake up.
5. When possible, what is your favorite place to go for breakfast?
My kitchen, with a cup of tea. For some reason, eating in the morning makes me feel pretty ill, so I just stick with tea.

(Note: This does not apply to you guys, so don't worry about it)
(Second note: Beware of RANT)
It pisses me off to no end when people don't even bother to listen to what I say (or read what I write), and assume I'm saying something I'm not. Then they jump in with their half-assed comments and give me hell for something I did not say. It's even more galling when it's something I write, because any person with half a brain could go back and read over what I've written; it's there in plain print for all to see. If said individual actually did so, she would see that I'm agreeing with her. Does the internet somehow dock 50 points from the collective human IQ, or are all people this naturally stupid?
My absolute #1 pet peeve of all time: having something I say misunderstood and misinterpreted, and then being yelled at because of it. $^%@! Call me oversensitive (which I know I am -- it's one of my biggest faults), but this kind of stuff really does hurt my feelings. It's as if this person doesn't have the frickin' time of day to read what I've written, but has time aplenty to type out an indignant/baffled/whiny/angry reply. This is the SECOND time this has happened, with the SAME damn woman. Maybe the overhang of your thick Neanderthal brow made reading a little difficult, hmm? *angry sarcasm*

Well, I've finally given in and answered the questions to this week's Friday Five. Maybe I'll make this a weekly thing, since I don't do much with this LiveJournal.
Whaa, don't like these questions...
1. When was the last time you cheated?
In History class last semester, when we had to fill up a notecard with information about Mao's policies in China (it was originally supposed to be a seminar, but our schedule got backed up because of all the snow and school cancellations), I never actually finished the book on Mao that we were supposed to read; Angie noticed me working frantically during lunch and lent me her notecard to copy, which provided about half of the information that went on my own card. It wasn't the same as, say, looking at someone's test paper, but copying a friend's homework still counts as cheating.
2. When was the last time you stole?
I took some stickers from the grocery store when I was three years old. I don't think I was old enough to seriously process the morality of that particular action.
3. When was the last time you lied?
Last week, telling my mom that I was happy and everything was okay.
4. When was the last time you broke or vandalized another's property?
I don't think I've ever done either.
5. When was the last time you hurt a loved one?
This Tuesday, when I had been hanging out with my friends all day and was on AIM until 2:30 in the morning. Mom made me come upstairs and freaked out when she saw the black bags under my eyes; they did look pretty messed up. She started yelling about how I wasn't taking care of my health, and how irresponsible that was since I'd only had surgery two weeks earlier. At first I was a little annoyed at her because I thought she was overreacting, but felt guilty when I saw that she really was scared.

Well, I'm having nasal surgery tomorrow, which will apparently result in two black eyes for a while...so according to the surgeon, I won't be able to read (from books or from the computer) for about a week. Talk to ya'll in roughly seven days!
(Guh. I really am anxious about this, though.)

Aloha, anranius! *waves* Nice to see you on LiveJournal.
Three reasons why Hanah -- a recent Bryn Mawr grad who found my main blog and e-mailed me -- is a kickass individual:
(1) She minored in Political Science (as I hope to do) (2) She was in Bryn Mawr's Renaissance Choir (much like RM's Madrigals) and misses it terribly (and Lord, do I miss Mads) (3) She's a libertarian (I tend to lean that way politically)
Hanah gave me some tips about which professors are awesome (Prof. Salkever, political philosophy; Prof. Kosman, ancient philosophy; Prof. Kramer, Renaissance poetry and Shakespeare) and which ones are rather poor (Prof. Elkins, Constitutional law), as well as a BMC friend's e-mail addy and info about Renaissance Choir. What a sweet thing to do!
Maybe it's the abundance of French films I've been watching lately (some sort of movie marathon on Bravo), but the temptation to study French in college is beating me up again. Awr. *whimpers*

A monkey daemon, like the one Mrs. Coulter has? Er. I've always thought that if I had a daemon, it would settle as a Siamese cat -- with all the positive and negative attributes that would go along with it.
